Role summary

Key responsibilities
- Manage patients in the Emergency Department under the supervision of the ED consultant.
- Exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy when assessing, managing, and planning care for a variety of emergency presentations.
- Take medical histories, undertake physical examinations, diagnose, form management plans, and explain conditions during consultations.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, discriminating between normal and abnormal findings.
- Perform diagnostic, therapeutic procedures and clinical skills relevant to Emergency Medicine under appropriate supervision.
- Fully document all aspects of patient care and complete all required paperwork.
Essential criteria
- BA/BSc Degree prior to undertaking PA program
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Associate training programme
- Evidence of post registration learning & development
- Registered on MVR
- Minimum two years experience in emergency medicine
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
- Ability to exercise sound judgements when faced with conflicting pressures
- Ability to implement and interpret policies and procedures
- Awareness of current developments and initiatives in emergency medicine services.
- Ability to assess patients and formulate/execute clinical management plans.
- Knowledge of medical procedures and terminology
- Commitment to CME and professional development
- Ability to support Drs in decision making
- Advanced organisational skills
- IT literate
Desirable criteria
- Certified CPR, ALS & PALS
- Experience of conducting clinical audit
- Assist in the educational development of Physician Associate students through student shadowing and/or teaching
- Ability to manage and lead a working group
- Previous evidence of study in Emergency Medicine

Job summary
The post-holder will hold a science related degree prior to graduating from an accredited Physician Associate training programme. The post-holder will have a minimum of two years' experience in Emergency Medicine. He/she will work under the direction of the consultant Emergency Physicians, working collaboratively with other members of the clinical team within the Trust's policies and clinical guidelines. The job will principally be directed towards clinical and medical support in all areas of the Emergency Department.
The post-holder is expected:
- To manage patients in the Emergency Department under the supervision of the ED consultant
- To manage patients in all areas of the Emergency Department within their scope of practice
- To exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy when assessing, managing, and planning care for a variety of emergency presentations
- To develop extensive specialist knowledge and experience in emergency medicine
- To contribute to achieving and maintaining targets and standards for treatment in Emergency Medicine
- To support our work related to The Royal College of Emergency Medicine audit and quality improvement
