Role summary
This role is for a Dental Nurse Specialist to act as a Sedation Lead for the Coventry & Warwickshire Community Dental Service, based in Leamington. The post holder will ensure the smooth running of sedation and general anaesthesia lists, acting as the primary responsible nurse across various sites. They will support clinicians in providing high-quality dental care for patients with complex needs and manage materials, stock, and best practices for sedation sessions. The role requires travel across all Coventry & Warwickshire Dental sites.
Key responsibilities
- Responsible for the safe and effective operation of the Sedation and General Anaesthesia clinical sessions and associated nursing team.
- Prioritising of daily and weekly workload ensuring correction and completion of tasks to ensure effective clinical care.
- To develop and monitor an order system to ensure all materials, sundries and instruments required are available for all Sedation sites.
- To set-up a robust system to monitor stock levels and expiry dates of medicaments.
- To develop and implement best practice in all sedation sites to ensure the smooth and efficient running of sedation sessions.
- To work in partnership with the Booking and Access Team to collate all paperwork, x-rays, and blood test results as required for the individual's sedation appointment.
- To be the primary lead for all Sedation and GA theatre sessions, directing, guiding and leading nurses to ensure continuity and best practice.
Essential criteria
- National Certificate for Dental Nurses or similar
- Registered with the GDC
- Specialist training in Intravenous sedation
- additional post-Certification Qualification in Dental Nursing, Conscious Sedation
- Working with patients with special care requirements, medically compromised, phobic and high risk
- Car owner/driver willing to travel and work across all Coventry & Warwickshire Dental sites
- Knowledge of a range of Dental procedures - particularly in Conscious sedation
- Enthusiastic and motivated with the ability to motivate others
Desirable criteria
- Leadership or Management Qualification
- Post-certification Qualification in Special Care Dental Nursing, Dental Radiography, Oral Health Certificate
- Special care Dental Nursing in a community setting
