Role summary
The Clinical Site Manager plays a crucial role in the operational management of the acute trust, ensuring patient access standards are met. This involves managing demand and capacity across emergency, elective, and repatriation pathways. The post holder is responsible for allocating patient movement, ensuring safe admissions, transfers, and discharges, and preventing unnecessary readmissions. They will work closely with patient flow coordinators and provide clinical expertise, supporting staff and maintaining high standards of patient safety.
Key responsibilities
- Manage demand and capacity via emergency, elective and repatriation pathways.
- Manage and allocate patient movement throughout the Trust, ensuring patients are placed correctly.
- Work in liaison with patient flow coordinators to ensure safe admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
- Actively manage patient demand and deal with unpredictable events, both clinical and non-clinical.
- Provide clinical expertise for developing and enhancing service and supporting staff, especially during nights.
Essential criteria
- Current NMC registration first level nurse essential (consideration for other health care professionals e.g. registered Paramedics who hold relevant skills / experience)
- Teaching and Assessing qualification or equivalent.
- Advanced Clinical Practitioner qualification or evidenced experience
- Evidence of effective people/resource management.
- Effective advanced communication skills for the communication of complex, challenging and highly sensitive information.
- Developed interpersonal, problem solving and conflict management skills.
- Evidence of extensive professional & operational knowledge of working within an acute Trust environment
Desirable criteria
- Clinical or Managerial based first degree or equivalent experience.
- Experience in Operational management or similar setting

Job summary
The Clinical Site Manager has a pivotal role in the operational management of the acute trust, facilitating the sustained achievement of patient access standards including the national 4hour Trust target. The focus of the role is to manage demand and capacity via the emergency, elective and repatriation pathways.
The role is responsible for managing and allocating patient movement throughout the Trust ensuring patients are allocated to the right place at the right time, the first time. Working in close liaison with the patient flow coordinators the post holder will ensure the safe admission, transfer and discharge of patients between acute and community preventing unnecessary admissions and re-admissions. The Clinical Site Manager must have operational management skills in association with acute clinical skills. Post holders will work flexibly to meet the requirements of the Trust according to pressures as they arise and be responsible for initiating systems and processes that appropriately supports patient flow and the management of risk.
