Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced neonatal educator to join the South West Neonatal Network team on a part-time secondment. The role involves providing senior neonatal education expertise across the South West, collaboratively delivering regional education programmes, and supporting workforce development and quality improvement initiatives. The post holder will be passionate about enhancing the experience of neonatal staff and families through education and development. While predominantly home-based, travel across the South West will be required for educational events.
Key responsibilities
- Foster a culture of engagement and develop communication with stakeholders on complex matters.
- Use expert knowledge of neonatal care and education strategies to implement the network wide framework for neonatal education and training.
- Anticipate barriers to success in education delivery and take appropriate action to improve outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Nurse for Education to deliver a regional Neonatal QIS programme and support stand-alone training events.
- Utilise senior education expertise to practically deliver specialist neonatal education and training, including practical skills and simulation.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of a regional strategy for workforce, training and education.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse/Midwife and member of NMC.
- Neonatal Qualification in Speciality.
- Educated to master level or equivalent level of experience working at a senior level in specialist area.
- Recognised teaching qualification or equivalent level of experience - e.g. PGCERT or willingness to work towards.
- Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development.
- Knowledge of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciation of the implications of this on work area.
- Extensive experience in the delivery and co-ordination of multidisciplinary neonatal education and training.
- Experience of contributing to higher education programmes.
- Experience of managing and motivating a team and reviewing individual performance.
- Experience of researching best practice (globally, private and public sector), interpreting its relevance and seeking processes/practices which could be implemented to achieve reform, including advising on policy implementation.
- Experience of innovating, implementing and evaluating new ways of working.

Job summary

Main duties of the job
The Network aims to improve the family experiences, clinical outcomes and quality standards within neonatal care, encouraging continuity and consistency across the region. The Network is hosted by Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (BFT).
The post holder will provide senior neonatal education expertise across the South West. They will collaboratively deliver regional neonatal education programmes, including the Qualified in Specialty course, and support workforce development and quality improvement initiatives.
The successful post holder will be passionate about enhancing the experience of neonatal staff and the families who use neonatal services, through delivery and promotion of education, learning and development.
