Role summary
Ward 3 Respiratory ward is seeking an enthusiastic healthcare support worker to assist qualified nurses with patient care. The role involves meeting basic nursing needs, working on initiative in a fast-paced environment, and communicating effectively with a multidisciplinary team. Duties include hygiene, feeding, vital observations, stock management, and documentation. Training and development opportunities, including basic life support, are provided.
Key responsibilities
- Assist qualified nurses in meeting the basic nursing needs of patients.
- Work from own initiative in a fast-paced working environment.
- Communicate effectively with fellow HCSW's, physicians, nurses, and doctors.
- Liaise with ward clerks regarding admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Perform duties such as meeting hygiene and toileting needs, serving meals, taking vital observations, and documenting in patient notes.
- Maintain good levels of stock and PPE, and dispose of hazardous waste safely.
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW)
- Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject Or Equivalent experience and can evidence work based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge, and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role which is gained through experience and worked based training/short courses
- Experience of working within a relevant health or social care environment, providing direct patient care
- Good communication skills - verbal and written
- Ability to keep calm in stressful situations
- Ability to demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach
Desirable criteria
- Ward based experience in a hospital environment
- Welsh Language Speaking & Listening Skills (Level 3 and above/B2)

Job summary
Ward 3 Respiratory ward are looking for an enthusiastic health care support worker who wants to make a difference.
The ward receives respiratory patients from the Emergency Department as well as step down patients from ITU/HDU. It is an extremely busy unit comprising of 28 beds.
Exceptional team working is essential to this role, along with a warm and friendly bedside manner and the ability to work in a high-pressure area. Previous experience in a hospital/acute setting is beneficial but we accept applications from those without hospital care experience. Showing enthusiasm for learning and developing is key.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will be responsible for assisting the qualified nurses to meet the basic nursing needs of the patients in their care, as well as working from their own initiative and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced working environment.
You will need to have outstanding communication skills - you will be part of a team of fellow HCSW's, physician's assistants, qualified nurses and nurse practitioners, junior Doctors and consultants. You will be expected to communicate with these members of the team along with liaising with our ward clerks on admissions, transfers and discharges.
