Role summary

This role is for an experienced Pre-Assessment Nurse to join the Surgical Pre-Assessment Team at St. Bartholomew's Hospital. The nurse will assess patients pre-surgery in the new Smithfield Wing, focusing on Breast, Gynae/Fertility, and Endocrine Services. The position involves delivering patient-centred care, providing professional expertise, and contributing to service provision to ensure a safe and compassionate patient experience.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse on NMC Register
  • IV accreditation and phlebotomy
  • Minimum of 3 years post registration experience to include a minimum of 2 years surgical ward experience
  • Specialist Clinical course
  • Prep for mentorship course

Desirable criteria

  • Possession of or working towards a degree
  • 1 year management / leadership experience
  • Releveant pre- assessment course
  • Relevant experience in the clinical speciality, including in at least one of breast, gynae or endocrine surgery
  • Experience in the management of the acutely unwell patient and recognition of the deteriorating patient
  • Experience in management of staff
  • Experience as pre- assessment nurse
  • Knowledge of current evidence based practice in relevant surgical procedures
  • Knowledge of a range of surgical procedures
  • Excellent communication skills with MDT and patients (verbal and written)
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to support the development of others
  • Ability to organize and forward plan, manage own caseload
  • Ability to respond to challenges in a pro-active way
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Efficient time management
  • Reflective practice
  • ECG recording

Job summary

We are looking for an inspired individual with Surgical experience to join our Surgical Pre- Assessment Team at St. Bartholomew's Hospital. The job offers the unique opportunity to bring your expertise to ensure safe and compssionate patient experience whilst maximising our capacity utilisation through innovative ways.You will work alongside your pre- assessment colleagues including, Surgeons and Perioperative Medicine and Senior Nursing Team to deliver high quality care to patients undergoing Breast, Gynae or Endocrine Surgery. The majority of these patients will be treated in the new Smithfield Wing. You will have the opportunity to ensure patients receive high quality care, ensuring they feel informed, engaged and well prepared for their pending treatment.
