Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to join the London Borough of Merton's expanding service. You will assess, diagnose, and intervene for children and young people with various speech, language, and communication needs across educational settings. The position involves collaborating with schools, families, and multi-disciplinary professionals to support positive outcomes and contribute to inclusive practice. It offers professional development and flexible working, suitable for both newly qualified and experienced therapists.
Key responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose and deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs.
- Produce reports and recommendations to support educational outcomes and SEND provision.
- Work collaboratively with schools, families, SENCOs and other professionals to ensure joined-up support.
- Provide advice, consultation and training to education staff to build capacity within schools.
- Support inclusive education and contributing to positive outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
Essential criteria
- Experience of assessing children and young people with speech language and communication needs
- Experience of working with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities
- Experience of working collaboratively with parents carers schools and other professionals
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of maintaining accurate clinical records and reports
- Degree or recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Speech and Language Therapist.
- Eligible to work as a Speech and Language Therapist in the UK.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in mainstream schools
- Experience of working in special schools
- Experience of supporting children and young people with autism spectrum disorder
- Experience of delivering training to education staff
- Experience of supporting inclusive practice within educational settings
- Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
