Role summary

This role is for a part-time Band 5 Registered General Nurse (RGN) to work within prison services at HMP Kirklevington. The nurse will provide primary care, minor injuries, emergency care, health assessments, and manage long-term conditions. They will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, delivering high-quality clinical care and contributing to offender rehabilitation. Full induction and training will be provided, so prior prison experience is not required.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse Level 1 - Adult /General/Mental Health

Desirable criteria

  • Mentorship / supervision/teaching / assessing experience/ training
  • Knowledge of current healthcare issues.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance audit, risk management and quality agenda
  • Working within a multi-disciplinary healthcare team
  • Competent in clinical practice e.g., phlebotomy, ECG monitoring
  • Worked in a complex environment managing deteriorating patients
  • Experience of working within a Health & Justice environment.
  • Experience of health needs assessment/Triage
  • Working to Patient Group Directives
  • Experience in working in general practice
  • Management / Minor Injuries
  • Experience of using SystmOne or willing to undertake training

Job summary

We're recruiting now for part time (28.5 hours per week) Band 5 RGN primary care nurses to work within our prison services across HMP Kirklevington.

Every day is different for a prison nurse, as you'll work within varied roles including:

oPrimary care nursing

oMinor injuries and illnesses

oEmergency and urgent care

oHealth assessment and wellbeing checks

oLong term conditions

Main duties of the job

We are a multi-disciplinary team collaborating with other services like GP, Optometry, Dentist, Podiatry, Physiotherapy, Sexual health, Substance Misuse and Mental health. To help us deliver our extensive range of services, you'll be a qualified registered nurse (RGN) with a passion to deliver high-quality clinical care and a commitment to the rehabilitation of offenders. You'll be self-motivated, have a sound knowledge base and excellent communications skills.

Experience of working within the prison environment is not necessary as full induction and training will be provided.
