Role summary
This role is for a highly motivated and enthusiastic registered Pharmacy Technician at Watford General Hospital. You will work 37.5 hours per week, including some late duties and weekend shifts. The position involves rotating through Dispensary and Clinical areas, providing pharmaceutical services, and assisting with training and supervision. Both permanent and fixed-term opportunities are available.
Key responsibilities
- Work as part of the pharmacy team to provide an efficient, effective and safe pharmaceutical service.
- Rotate through Dispensary and Clinical areas.
- Undertake a range of activities in the dispensary, including preparation, dispensing and issuing of medicines.
- Provide a range of clinical and ward services under the direction of the Lead Clinical Technician.
- Provide advice to ward staff, patients and carers on pharmaceutical matters within own competency.
- Assist senior Dispensary staff in supervising, training and coaching of pharmacy support workers/student technicians.
Essential criteria
- BTEC level 3 Diploma in the principles and practice for Pharmacy Technicians (previously NVQ 3 in pharmacy services / BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent).
- Current registration as Pharmacy Technician with General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Basic clinical knowledge.
- Requirements of Good Dispensing Practice.
- Knowledge of CPD.
- Knowledge of good stock control principles.
- Good knowledge of law and ethics related to Pharmacy.
- Understand the importance of the need for confidentiality.
- Recent experience in a pharmacy setting.
- Experience of working to SOPs.
- Experience of working with other healthcare professionals.
- Experience of working with patients including counselling.
Desirable criteria
- Accredited checking qualification.
- Clinical Technician Accreditation in Medicines Management (or equivalent).
- Knowledge of the EMIS pharmacy system.
- Knowledge of Specialist Hospital services e.g. Homecare, Medicines Management, Procurement.
- Experience of working in a pharmacy hospital.
- Experience of EMIS pharmacy.
