Role summary
This role is for a passionate and motivated Specialist Pharmacist to join the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. You will provide daily clinical pharmacy services to specified wards and areas, assisting with the training and development of others. The position involves utilising clinical experience to optimise patient care and supporting the improvement of pharmacy services within a large acute teaching hospital setting. Opportunities exist across various specialities including Emergency and Specialist Medicine, Women's & Children's, and Musculoskeletal/Specialist Surgery/Urology, Gastroenterology and General Surgery/HPB, with some roles incorporating antimicrobial stewardship.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in the delivery of optimum pharmaceutical care to patients served by the clinical directorate on specified ward(s) / clinics.
- Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols.
- Actively pursue audit, research and development within the CMG and the department, publicising results through presentations and publications.
- Assist with the training and development of staff, including induction planning and ongoing support for trainee and foundation pharmacists.
- Provide clinical pharmacy input within MSSUGGS supporting safe, effective and patient-centered use of medicines.
- Contribute to the delivery of high-quality antimicrobial pharmacy services, supporting appropriate prescribing, infection management and optimisation of antimicrobial use.
Essential criteria
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in pharmacy
- Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Post-graduate certificate in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy practice or evidence of equivalent clinical experience
- Working towards completion of a Post graduate Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy/ Pharmacy practice
- Sound current clinical knowledge
- Evidence of post registration commitment to continuing professional development
- Approaching 2 years (minimum) post-registration experience in pharmacy practice with relevant clinical experience
- Evidence of communication skills, verbal/written. Good interpersonal and communication
- Assertive and enthusiastic
- Able to supervise other Pharmacists
- Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's Values and Behaviours
- Able to demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect appropriate to their individual needs.
- All staff are expected to engage in compassionate and inclusive leadership in the provision of high quality care and interactions with others
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of leadership training and skills particularly change management
- Registered Independent Prescriber
- Membership of a professional body e.g. MRPharmS or UKCPA or equivalent specialist group
- Evidence of Practice Research projects undertaken
- Awareness of National Issues
- Clinical Governance
- Knowledge of patients own drug (POD) and self medication schemes
- Evidence of teaching undergraduates, post- graduates, doctors, nurses, pharmacists
- Communication skills at level sufficient to be able to undertake commitment
- Experience of working in hospital
- Experience of working in medicines information (either as trainee or qualified pharmacist)
- Evidence of achievement in the capacity of clinical/ward pharmacist
- Experience of on-call/ability to deal with calls out of hours.
