Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join a supportive team at the Royal London Hospital. The role involves managing a caseload of patients with communication and swallowing impairments across acute inpatient and stroke wards. The post-holder will develop specialist skills in stroke, neurosciences, and general medical & surgical areas. Support will be provided for NQP and dysphagia competencies, with opportunities to attend MDT meetings and participate in teaching.
Essential criteria
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
- Health Professions Council - Licence to Practice
Desirable criteria
- Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist
- Experience of working with adults with acquired communication / swallowing disorders. This can be from placement however, examples of development of core skills in this area must be demonstrated
- Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience working with clients from multicultural/lingual backgrounds and working with interpreters
- Knowledge and demonstration of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions relevant to acquired communication/swallowing disorders in adults including aphasia, cognitive-communication disorder, apraxia, dysarthria, and dysphagia
- Knowledge of national policies, procedures and current research relevant to adult neurology and acute medicine
- Knowledge of cultural and linguistic issues in working with a multi-cultural caseload
- Demonstrates good analytical and reflection skills
- Ability to work independently and to take initiative Good organisational skills
- Ability to acknowledge need for, and seek support
- Ability to prioritise workload demands
- Awareness of the principles of clinical governance /audit
- Awareness of the roles of other professionals
- Awareness of standards of record keeping
- Basic computer literacy skills

The post-holder will be supported to work through the RCSLT NQP and dysphagia competencies frameworks as required.
