Role summary
This role involves leading and coordinating sexual health education and outreach programmes across Hertfordshire. The successful candidate will manage a skilled outreach team, develop and deliver targeted health promotion campaigns, and build partnerships with local organisations to improve service accessibility. The position focuses on reducing health inequalities and promoting sexual wellbeing through innovative, evidence-informed approaches. It requires strong leadership, communication, and partnership-working skills to enhance sexual health outcomes for residents.
Key responsibilities
- Lead clinically focused outreach services for vulnerable and at-risk populations.
- Deliver accessible, evidence-based healthcare interventions, including testing, vaccinations, and prevention initiatives.
- Manage the Hertfordshire National Chlamydia Screening Programme and condom distribution schemes.
- Ensure services meet local and national targets through data-driven population health approaches.
- Provide leadership, supervision, and support to the outreach team, promoting continuous improvement.
- Build effective partnerships to enhance service accessibility, engagement, and outcomes.
Essential criteria
- Degree level qualifications in healthcare, health education, public health or health promotion, youth work, other relevant degree, or deemed comparable experience or is a Registered general Nurse.
- Able to work under PGD (patient groups directions) or PSD's (patient specific directions)
- Experience working within outreach and evidence of working with at risk groups.
- Experience in delivering [contact details removed] promotion campaigns
- Evidence of using evidence-based practice within the outreach setting
- Evidence of working with external stakeholders
- Evidence of managing/co-ordinating teams
- Able to demonstrate the importance of lesson planning and feedback
- Able to comply written reports
- Can evidence the application of local KPI's to outreach events
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge on sexual health and sexual health strategies
- Recognised teaching and assessing skills
- Understand the need for clear and concise record keeping
- Knowledge of NHS processes
- Can adapt outreach strategies to meet the changing needs of the local population
- Maintains up to date knowledge of local public health strategies
- Comprehensive understanding and experience working within safeguarding children & adults
- IT skills in word, excel and mail.
- Able to use NHS EPR (electronic records) systems
- Can demonstrate the use of diplomacy under pressure
- Is empathic and compassionate
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of working in management for role
- Evidence of local resolution of complaints
- Holds a recognised management training qualification
- Has undertaken or been part of a clinical audit
- Car driver or willing to use public transport to get to outreach events
