Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic and proactive Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to support adults with communication and swallowing difficulties in community settings across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. You will work autonomously under supervision, delivering and evaluating care programs, and building supportive relationships with patients and carers. The position is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, and requires travel to various community locations and care homes.
Key responsibilities
- Work autonomously under the supervision of a registered Speech and Language Therapist.
- Manage a defined caseload of service users across various clinical environments, including community settings and Nursing/Care Homes.
- Deliver, monitor, and evaluate care and support programmes, following clinical guidance.
- Contribute to treatment planning and outcomes.
- Build effective, supportive relationships with patients, carers, and families.
- Provide intervention and support through a range of delivery methods, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care.
Essential criteria
- Qualifications and Credit Framework QCF/NVQ/apprenticeship level 3 in related subject
- NVQ 3 or equivalent in related subject
- Evidence of/willing to undertake post-registration training relevant to the post.
- Relevant placements/experience to the role including supporting or contributing to the management of adults with acquired and communication difficulties/dysphagia/ALD.
- Supporting service users, families and carers in dealing with the impact of communication difficulties

The Speech and Language Therapy Service in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent provides assessment and treatment for adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties in community settings, including patients' own homes. We offer dysphagia, communication, and voice assessment and intervention, supported by strong leadership and compassionate management.
