Role summary
This is an opportunity for a dynamic Registered Nurse to join the District Nursing Service in East Dorset, working 26 hours per week. The role involves providing complex nursing care to patients in their homes, including wound management, palliative care, and IV drug administration. The successful applicant will work autonomously in a challenging environment with opportunities for career development and training. The team collaborates closely with wider multi-disciplinary teams and local hospices.
Key responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to patients at home, including diabetes management, complex wound care, IV management, end of life care, injections, and pressure area care.
- Deliver high-quality, person-centred care that prioritises safety, privacy, and dignity.
- Assess patients' care needs and develop care programmes as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Offer advice to patients and service users regarding their care.
- Plan, implement, and review health improvement programmes in various settings.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide clinical support to students and junior staff.
Essential criteria
- Registered practitioner to degree/diploma level
- Membership of the relevant Professional Body
- Learning and Assessing in Practice Qualification or equivalent practice assessors training
- Evidence of recent professional development in an up to date portfolio
- Able to communicate effectively at different levels of the organisation and with staff, patient/service users, visitors or external organisations both verbally and in writing in the exchange of complex, sensitive or contentious information which may require the use of negotiating and/or persuasive skills.
- Ability to use own initiative within sphere of authority
- Willingness to advance own clinical knowledge, skill and competence based on current evidence
- Able to analyse and assess situations and to interpret potentially conflicting situations and determine appropriate action, where there is a range of options and judgement is required.
- Supervised experience gained during clinical placements
- Ability to mentor students / supervise other junior staff
- Demonstrable knowledge of assessment and therapeutic interventions in area of practice
- Experience of demonstrating duties to junior staff
Desirable criteria
- Recent previous experience within a comparable role
- Advanced wound care experience, end of life care

Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Registered Nurse to join the District Nursing Service covering [contact details removed]; working 26hpw working across all 3 teams in East Dorset as and when required with the main base being St Leonards hospital.
The role of the Community Staff Nurse has changed over the years and we are now looking after complex patients in their home environments. The skills required for Community Nursing included complex wound management, palliative care and end of life care, medicines management, IV drug administration as well as having a high standard of holistic assessment and care planning skills.
Training is available within the Trust for the successful applicant.

The team work closely with members of the wider multi-disciplinary teams including local Hospices, Complex Care Nurses, Health and Social Care Coordinators, Specialist Nurses and Therapist colleagues.
