Role summary
This role is for an Occupational Therapy Technician within the Learning Disabilities Service, supporting Occupational Therapists (OT's) in a countywide, community-based team. You will assist with assessments and interventions for adults with learning disabilities, providing specialist OT intervention under guidance and working independently. This is a 12-month fixed-term development opportunity aimed at providing experience and skill development for future career progression, including potential apprenticeship opportunities. A full UK driving license with business insurance is essential for this role.
Key responsibilities
- Work closely and collaboratively with occupational therapists, service users and their carers to contribute to assessment.
- Develop and deliver person-centred, goal-focused intervention plans across a range of community settings.
- Support individuals to identify and work towards meaningful goals, maximising their independence.
- Enhance functional abilities in everyday activities, including self-care, vocational tasks, domestic responsibilities and leisure pursuits.
- Play a key role in promoting recovery, independence and participation, using a strengths-based approach.
Essential criteria
- Work with people who have Learning Disability and complex health needs - eg autism, behaviours of distress or concern, sensory processing difficulties, dementia
- Using a range of practical and creative skills
- Worked with an occupational therapy team
- Experience of CPD and role development activities
- Knowledge and Skills
- Basic understanding of needs and concerns of service users who have a learning disability
- Basic understanding of OT and ability to learn about the OT process
- Interpersonal skills enabling therapeutic alliances to be developed and maintained with service users who have complex needs.
- Organisational and time management skills
- Ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate own time and plan tasks.
- Ability to contribute to and work within clinical risk assessment
- Willing to take responsibility for administrative and departmental duties as necessary
- Willing to work as part of a team and share information
- Other
- Physical skills required facilitating a wide range of activities, including using equipment as required
- Mental and emotional effort required to undertake concentration required for clinical consultations and interventions on both one-to-one and group basis.

Job summary
Would you like the opportunity to join an innovative, developing Occupational Therapy Service? If so, we are looking to recruit an Occupational Therapy Technician to work within the Learning Disabilities Service, supporting the specialist work of the Occupational Therapists (OT's).
This is a countywide, community based team and you will be assisting the OT's by helping to complete assessments and provide intervention for adults who have a learning disability. You will be responsible for providing specialist Occupational Therapy intervention under the guidance of the OT team, as well as working independently on a day to day basis in a variety of settings.
