Role summary
This role involves delivering high-quality treatments and interventions to people with common mental health problems in primary care settings. The post holder will provide screenings and therapeutic interventions, including Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, as part of the Talking Therapies team. They will work with diverse client groups, uphold equal opportunities, and contribute to meeting national and local targets for access and recovery. The role requires a commitment to a holistic model of mental health and working collaboratively with partners.
Essential criteria
- Professional qualification such as DipSW, RMN, O.T. or BACP or BABPC accreditation qualified counsellor
- Training in a psychological or psychosocial intervention
- Experience of working in community settings with people experiencing a range of mental health difficulties
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in statutory and voluntary mental health services
- Physical Requirements
- Must have an ability to visit a variety of sites within South Tyneside.
- Skills / Attributes / Knowledge
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good organisational skills and ability to work autonomously
- Knowledge and understanding of the recovery approach to Mental Health
- Able to engage people who have experienced a range of mental disorders
- Ability to challenge inequality and oppressive practice
- Basic Microsoft Office IT skills
- An ability to work in time-limited model that encourages focussed intervention and disengagement

Main duties of the job
The
post holder will provide screenings and interventions as part of the Talking
Therapies team which also includes other therapeutic models such as, IPT, CAT,
EMDR, CFD, Couples Counselling and Person Centred Counselling.
The post holder will be expected to have a commitment to a
holistic model of mental health and working with partners to address client
need through 1:1 work and group work.
There
is recognition that staff can realise their potential through effective
clinical and management supervision, managerial support, and through access to
internal and external training.
