Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for Registered Nurses to join the Sandra Chapman Centre, a Haematology/Oncology Day Unit. The role involves participating in the safe delivery and planning of systemic anti-cancer therapy and supportive care for patients with malignant and non-malignant Haematology and Oncology disorders. Successful applicants will contribute to delivering high standards of care, using reflective and integrated practice, and will undertake training in Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment. The unit operates Monday to Friday, 0800-1800.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in the safe delivery and planning of systemic anti-cancer therapy and supportive care.
- Perform assessment of patients prior to Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT).
- Administer SACT and general IV drugs.
- Provide Acute Haematology and Oncology care.
- Administer Blood Products.
- Liaise with members of the MDT team.
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse
- 6 months post registration experience
- Basic Oncological/Haematological knowledge
- Acute medical/surgical experience
- Demonstrable interest in Haematology and Oncology
- IV Drug Administration skills
Desirable criteria
- Competency in SACT administration - level 6 / local training
- Degree holder
- Haematology and Oncology nursing experience
- IV Cannulation skills
- ECG trained
- Competent in the care of all central line devices
- Competency in SACT administration
