Role summary
This role involves managing mortality and clinical harm processes, including coordinating the Child Death Review process, within University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. The post holder will support the scrutiny of mortality data, drive learning and quality improvement, and ensure compliance with statutory obligations. It requires strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to enhance patient safety.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the operational coordination of the Trust's Child Death Review process.
- Support the oversight and quality assurance of mortality review processes, including Structured Judgement Reviews.
- Analyse and report on mortality and child death review data to identify learning, themes and opportunities for improvement.
- Support compliance with national guidance, statutory requirements and local governance processes.
- Work collaboratively with clinical teams, governance leads and external partner organisations to improve patient safety and organisational learning.
- Line manage and support ongoing development within the Mortality and Clinical Harm Team.
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience of working in a complex, fast-paced environment across organisational boundaries.
- Demonstrable experience of coordinating complex processes involving multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrable experience of using NHS information systems and incident management systems.
- Demonstrable experience of governance, compliance and assurance processes within a large and complex organisation.
- Demonstrable experience of analysing, interpreting and presenting data and information to support decision-making and quality improvement.
- Demonstrable experience of working with databases, digital systems and reporting tools.
- Understanding of patient safety, governance and quality improvement methodologies.
- Proven ability to review complex information from multiple sources and apply systematic decision-making.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Proven ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively and appropriately to a wide range of audiences.
- Excellent organisational skills with proven ability to prioritise competing demands and work to tight deadlines.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels and external partner organisations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify themes, trends and improvement opportunities.
- Proven ability to interpret, critically analyse and present complex information.
- Proven ability to produce high-quality reports, briefing papers and presentations.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proven ability to deal appropriately with confidential and highly sensitive and distressing information.
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent level of knowledge and demonstrable experience gained through working at a similar level in a related field.
- Thorough knowledge of administrative procedures, governance processes and specialist software packages acquired through demonstrable experience or formal training.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
