Role summary
This role involves providing specialist psychodynamic psychotherapy services, including assessment and treatment, to clients within the Southwark Primary Mental Health Care Team. The post holder will contribute to creating a psychologically safe environment, offer clinical consultation, and undertake service evaluation, audit, and research. It requires working autonomously within professional guidelines and Trust policies, taking responsibility for treatment and discharge decisions.
Essential criteria
- oQualification in Psychoanalytic or Psychodynamic Psychotherapy that has been accepted by the BPC/ BACP/ UKCP for purposes of professional registration
- oRegistered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist, and with BPC/ BACP/ UKCP or equivalent as an Adult Psychotherapist
Desirable criteria
- oTraining in applied psychodynamic models such as Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy, Mentalisation Based Therapy or Transference Focused Psychotherapy
- oExperience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature in adult mental health settings
- oExperience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. This may have been gained through work, research, volunteering and / or lived experience.
- oPre or post qualification experience of working in a community mental health service, secondary care mental health setting or related area
- oPre or post qualification experience working with personality difficulties or personality disorder, trauma, and social marginalisation
- oExperience of working in an organisation
- oLived experience of mental health challenges
- oExperience of developing and carrying out research projects
- oTheoretical knowledge of adult mental health and the evidence base for the relevant treatment
- oKnowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues, information governance, child and adult protection, and equalities legislation
- oKnowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care for people with different vulnerabilities and experiences of marginalisation
- oTo select and administer specialist psychological assessments, interpreting and integrating complex data that require analysis, interpretation and comparison, drawn from several sources
- oTo communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information with clients, carers and colleagues overcoming barriers to communication including sensory, and emotional difficulties, cultural differences and hostility to or rejection of information.
- oWell-developed IT skills including entry and analysis of data.
- oAbility to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to effective team functioning and holding team roles
- oAbility to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance and risk management as appropriate
- oInterest in developing skills in providing evidence-based therapies for treatment resistant depression or personality disorder.

Job summary
Job Purpose
- To provide a specialist psychodynamic psychotherapy service to Southwark Primary Mental Health Care Team including specialist assessment and psychotherapy, and monitoring of outcomes.
- To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse/intersectional backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
- To provide clinical consultation as and if requested to other professionals.

Main duties of the job
KR 1 Clinical and Client Care
- To provide specialist psychological assessments, formulations and interventions for clients in Southwark PCMHT including those with moderate to severe depression, anxiety, trauma and personality disorders _._ To assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans. To liaise with referrers, GPs and other professionals concerned
- To provide culturally appropriate psychological interventions with carers or families of referred clients when required
