Role summary
This role is for a motivated Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join the Neonatal Unit team in Bath. The successful candidate will develop clinical neonatal and leadership skills, focusing on improving quality neonatal care and the experience of babies and their families. They will support staff in maintaining high standards of clinical care and act as a role model. The unit is award-winning, purpose-built, and accredited for family-integrated and developmental care.
Key responsibilities
- Take charge of the unit, demonstrating excellent management and communication skills.
- Provide effective clinical skills in caring for special, high dependency, and Intensive care babies.
- Demonstrate professional expertise and knowledge acquired through post-registration academic study and clinical, leadership, and management development.
- Assume managerial responsibility and accountability for twenty-four-hour care delivery and management of the ward/area in the absence of the Lead Nurse.
- Supervise staff and students, maintaining a visible presence and providing clear clinical leadership to the nursing team.
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Childrens Nurse, Adult Nurse or Midwife
- Post Registration training in speciality
- Teaching and assessing qualification eg FLAP or equivalent
- NLS
- Previous experience working in a Level 2 or Level 3 Neonatal Unit with minimum 3 years experince
- Experience caring for babies requiring non-invasive ventilation and ventilation and higher dependency care
- Understanding of BAPM service and nursing workforce standards
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of recent continued professional development relevant to neonatal care
- Management qualification/course
- Demonstrable experience managing clinical escalation and supporting complex decision-making
- Experience coordinating shifts and supporting safe staffing and skill mix
- Experience participating in audits, quality improvement projects, or service development
- Evidence of promoting patient safety, incident learning, and risk management
