Role summary
This role is for a motivated and enthusiastic HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Clinical Biochemistry department at Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will work within the Blood Sciences Department, providing routine and specialist diagnostic laboratory services. Responsibilities include participating in a 24/7 rota, training other staff, and contributing to service development in a state-of-the-art laboratory setting.
Key responsibilities
- Work as part of a team to provide routine and specialist diagnostic laboratory service in Clinical Biochemistry.
- Participate in the training and development of other staff within the department.
- Participate fully in the department's 24/7 rota system.
- Contribute to the development of services provided to meet the requirements of users.
- Receive and analyse samples in accordance with laboratory policies and protocols.
- Assist in the interpretation and technical validation of analyses.
Essential criteria
- HCPC registered BMS
- BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent
- Blood Science tracked analyser system knowledge/experience
Desirable criteria
- Minimum 2 years BMS experience in a UK hospital Biochemistry lab
- Specialist lab knowledge/experience

Job summary
Applications are invited from motivated and enthusiastic HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists who are looking to progress their careers in Clinical Biochemistry. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within the Blood Sciences Department in state of the art laboratories on the Southmead site. The redeveloped Southmead site opened in May 2014 and is one of Europe's leading hospitals.
The department provides a routine Biochemistry testing service to all inpatient, outpatient and GP surgeries in the North Bristol area. It has a workload of over 1 million specimen requests per annum.
The Clinical Biochemistry department offers an extensive range of diagnostic and clinical services, including an integrated Blood Sciences Automated Laboratory, Toxicology, Metabolic Biochemistry, Antenatal and Newborn Screening, and Point of Care Testing services. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to rotate throughout the department and will be expected to participate in the department's 24-7 service.
