Role summary
This role involves assisting practitioner psychologists in delivering specialist applied psychology services within an eating disorders day service. Key duties include providing clinical work under supervision, assisting with administration, audits, and research projects, and offering meal support to service users. The post holder will also conduct psychological assessments and interventions under close supervision, and help develop clinical and training materials.
Key responsibilities
- Assist practitioner psychologists in the delivery of a specialist applied psychology service in an eating disorders day service including guided self-help and group work.
- Provide clinical work as required by the service, under the direct guidance, close clinical and professional supervision of a practitioner psychologist.
- Assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
- Provide meal support to service users and support specific patients with 1:1 support via behavioural experiments.
- Provide psychological assessments for clients in the Eating Disorders Day Service under the close supervision of a practitioner psychologist.
- Provide protocol based individual psychological interventions for clients in the Eating Disorders Day Service including guided self-help, CREST and CRT.
Essential criteria
- 2:1 (Hons) in Psychology
Desirable criteria
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
- Postgraduate training relevant to mental health
- Graduate level knowledge of psychological research methodology and statistical analysis.
- Awareness of racial and diversity issues
- Good theoretical knowledge of the problems experienced by and needs of people with eating disorders and of methods of assessment and treatment.
- Paid experience in a service providing psychological therapies
- Skills & abilities
- Skills in relevant psychological assessment and interventions that enable working as a pre-qualified practitioner with close clinical supervision.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills including communicating complex, information to clients, families and colleagues.
- Skills in providing supporting teaching and training provided by psychologists or others to other professional groups.
- Well-developed IT skills including entry and analysis of research data.
- Sufficient post-graduate experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs in mental health to be able to work clinically with close direct supervision.
- Experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. This may have been gained through work, research, volunteering and / or lived experience.
- Post-graduate experience of conducting research projects or audits.
