Role summary
This role is for a skilled and compassionate critical care nurse to join the Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU) at The Royal London Hospital. As a Band 6 nurse, you will provide high-quality, individualized patient care in a busy 44-bedded unit, which is part of the UK's largest trauma centre. You will act as a professional role model, clinical teacher, and mentor, contributing to the education and training of staff. The position offers exciting learning opportunities and a chance to lead and drive excellence within a dynamic multi-disciplinary team.
Key responsibilities
- Provide the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualized, holistic patient care in conjunction with the inter-professional team.
- Act as a professional role model and clinical teacher.
- Provide effective mentorship and preceptorship, participating in the education and training of nursing and non-nursing staff.
- Take charge of the Intensive Care Unit as required, liaising closely with the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse with continuing responsibility.
Essential criteria
- Registrant with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) of UK
- Completion of Adaptation Course, if not UK trained and not eligible for registration with NMC
- Adult Critical Care Course Certificate
- Preparation for Mentorship Course
- Intravenous accreditation
- Extensive critical care nursing experience
- Experience post adult critical care course
- Evidence of a positive contribution to the ICU team
- Experience in a specialised unit e.g. trauma, neurosciences
- Up to date knowledge of the clinical specialties relevant to patients (evidence based practice)
- Knowledge of current NHS, professional and educational issues
- Understands the principles of Clinical and Shared Governance and the implications for practice.
- Demonstrates an understanding of current educational practices relating to basic and continuing education.
- Evidence of proficient clinical skills in critical care nursing
- Is a proficient role model
- Demonstrated proficiency in communication, both verbally and in writing
- Actively engaged in Clinical Supervision / Action Learning
- Able to use initiative, solve problems and prioritise work
- Able to work in a changing environment and to actively support / promote planned change
- Demonstrates effective team work skills
- Demonstrated abilities to conduct Performance Appraisals and Personal Development Plans
Desirable criteria
- ALS Certification
- LEO / RCN Leadership Programme or equivalent
- Degree or working towards first degree
- Evidence of continuing professional development
