Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist to join the Major Trauma Centre at St George's Hospital. The role involves working with patients with serious injuries, their families, and staff within the Major Trauma service. The post holder will deliver brief therapeutic interventions, shape psychological care pathways, and work creatively on trauma wards, in ICU, or during rehabilitation sessions. Key responsibilities
- Help patients make sense of their thoughts, feelings, and reactions post-trauma.
- Provide psychoeducation on psychological reactions, distress management, and coping with pain.
- Assist with problem-solving current difficulties and explore barriers to rehabilitation engagement.
- Support the use of coping resources and resiliencies in patients.
- Liaise with the multi-disciplinary team regarding discharge preparation.
- Conduct clinical work with individual patients and their families, including staff teaching/training and consultation.
Essential criteria
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.
- Experience of psychological work with people with physical health problems.
- Experience of working in NHS services.
- Experience in acute hospital inpatient settings
- Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- Knowledge of clinical health psychology models / psychological aspects of illness.
- Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
- Experience of the application of clinical health psychology in different cultural contexts.
- Experience in acute hospital inpatient settings
- Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
- Membership of the British Psychological Society / Division of Clinical Psychology / Faculty of Clinical Health Psychology
- High level knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological approaches for specific problems (e.g. personality disorder, traumatic and adjustment reactions, adherence difficulties etc ).
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist tojoin our Major Trauma Centre at St George's Hospital. This role provides an opportunity to work with patients with serious and life changing injuries, their families and staff members working within the Major Trauma service.
The post holder will have the opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team where psychology is valued and well established. Alongside active clinical role, the post holder will have opportunities to shape and develop psychological care pathways within the Major Trauma Centre.
This role would be particularly suited to a candidate who is passionate about working in physical health and rehabilitation, and enjoys delivering brief therapeutic interventions.
Please note: the majority of the face-to-face clinical work takes place on the trauma wards, in ICU or during joint rehabilitation sessions. This provides an opportunity to work creatively to deliver effective clinical psychology interventions. Service also offers brief outpatient interventions.
