Role summary
The Emergency Planning Manager will be a key member of the Trust's specialist Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) team. This role supports services to strengthen resilience and maintain continuity of patient care by developing and implementing emergency plans, delivering training, and coordinating incident responses. Based across Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital Burton, the post holder will ensure the Trust is prepared for internal and external challenges, safeguarding patients, staff, and essential services. They will manage the day-to-day implementation and development of EPRR, including business continuity plans and training, ensuring compliance with national and local standards.
Key responsibilities
- Support the Head of Emergency Planning in maintaining the trust's EPRR responsibilities.
- Manage the day-to-day implementation and development of EPRR, including business continuity plans, training, communication, and exercising.
- Ensure delivery of performance outcomes and contribute to the trust's preparedness, resilience, and ability to respond to and recover from incidents.
- Be a key trust contact for all EPRR matters and act as a conduit for EPRR guidance and information.
- Work autonomously to ensure national and local standards are met, including the NHS EPRR Framework.
Essential criteria
- Experience as an Emergency Planning Manager preferably NHS or Public Sector
- A broad range of leadership management experience
- Experience of delivering training to small groups
- Experience of working in the NHS or similarly complex public sector organisation in a comparable level role.
- Practical experience of integrated management activities including risk assessment, business continuity / emergency planning
- Recognised Qualification in Emergency Planning or relevant experience
- Post-graduate level or equivalent relevant experience in EPRR related field
- Demonstrate excellent written communication skills
- Be able to communicate confidently to staff and Managers at all levels of the organisation
- Demonstrates excellent computer skills particularly MS Office
- Be prepared to travel across site
- Evidence of leading or coordinating activities in challenging, time-critical environments while maintaining a calm and resilient approach.
Desirable criteria
- Managed an NHS EPRR Team
- EPRR Qualification
- Be able to write plans, policies and procedures in a logical manner
- A proven record of delivery of EPRR at a management level
