Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join a dynamic team at The Royal Oldham Hospital. The role involves working on acute wards, rotating into critical care, and participating in videofluoroscopy clinics and out-patient services. The successful candidate will assess, diagnose, and manage adult patients with acquired communication and swallowing disorders, contributing to teaching programmes and clinical supervision.
Key responsibilities
- To be a specialist speech and language therapist in the field of adult acquired communication / swallowing disorders.
- To act as an autonomous practitioner with specialist knowledge, skills and experience, assessing, diagnosing and managing patients on the caseload.
- To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of one's professional and clinical work, working to agreed national and professional standards.
- To plan, deliver and evaluate clinical audit, research activities and in-service training within specialist area.
- The post will involve work on acute wards in a variety of medical / surgical areas including critical care, radiology and out-patients.
Essential criteria
- Accredited SLT degree or equivalent
- Evidence of successful completion of dysphagia competencies
- Registered with HPC (Health Professionals Council), licence to practice
- Registered member of RCSLT
- At least 1 year post qualification experience working with adults with acquired communication / swallowing disorders
- Experience of working within relevant specialist area at undergraduate / postgraduate level
- Knowledge and use of up-to-date assessment procedures and therapy techniques relevant to client group
- Experience of working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability and commitment to deliver training packages
Desirable criteria
- oEvidence of completion of specialist short courses or other post-graduate training
- Skills in the interpretation of videofluoroscopy assessment
- Experience of training SLTs and others

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and dynamic Speech and Language Therapy Team, working on the acute wards at The Royal Oldham Hospital, rotating into the dedicated critical care Speech and Language Therapy Team and participating in the weekly videofluoroscopy clinic and our out-patient service.
The successful post holder will join the existing team of 8 Speech and Language Therapists (6.77wte) and 2 Assistants (0.97wte) who between them cover acute medicine and surgery, critical care, neonatal intensive care, acute paediatrics, out-patients, videofluoroscopy and FEES, providing excellent opportunities for shared learning and experience. There is the expectation that the post holder will participate in the delivery of the many teaching programmes we provide to colleagues, as well as supporting our student SLTs on placement.
The team actively participate in clinical supervision both formally and informally and there is a regular journal club providing extra opportunities for CPD.
