Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife to join the Maternity Safety and Governance Team as a Risk and Governance Midwife. The role involves driving the maternity quality and governance agenda, ensuring safe and effective care. You will provide expert leadership in clinical risk management, oversee incident reporting, and coordinate learning from adverse events. The post holder will work collaboratively to identify trends, implement action plans, and promote best practice.
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife with up to date portfolio
- Practising Midwife
- Educated to degree level
Desirable criteria
- Management qualification
- Studying to masters level
- Significant Line management
- All round midwifery experience
- Experience of working in a regional maternity unit.
- Previous knowledge of risk and governance
- Evidence of formal management development.
- Evidence of on-going personal and professional development.
- Sound knowledge of current professional issues
- Working knowledge of computerised systems including maternity records.
- Can demonstrate involvement in research and audit
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to motivate staff and be a good role model.
- Able to work alone.
- Report writing and presentation skills
- IT skills
- Additional Requirements
- The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of Safe, Kind, Excellent.
- To act in a professional manner at all times in accordance with NMC Code of Conduct.
- Capable of developing liaisons with other practice areas/academic institutions.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Maternity Safety and Governance Team as a Risk and Governance Midwife at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Working closely with the Safety and Governance Lead Midwife, you will play a pivotal role in driving the maternity quality and governance agenda and supporting the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care.
The post holder will provide expert leadership and advice on clinical risk management, oversee incident reporting and investigations, coordinate learning from adverse events, and support continuous service improvement across maternity services. You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to identify trends, implement action plans, promote best practice and ensure compliance with local and national standards. This role is ideal for an experienced midwife who has strong leadership skills, significant clinical experience and a keen interest in governance, risk management and patient safety. You will be confident in managing complex issues, leading investigations, supporting staff development and influencing positive change.
