Role summary
This role is for an experienced Infection Prevention and Control Nurse to join a forward-thinking team at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust. You will provide expert advice, lead on infection surveillance and outbreak prevention, and support interventions at the patient bedside. The position involves delivering training, conducting audits, and driving improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and care quality across acute hospital sites and community bases. The team is digitally driven and data-focused, valuing innovation and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Produce and maintain surveillance information on new MRSA, Clostridium difficile, GNBSI organisms, and other mandatory surveillance system pathogens.
- Assist in the preparation and provision of reporting of MRSA, Clostridium difficile, and GNBSI rates to UKHSA and internal committees.
- Utilise Trust software like Datix to record incidents, actions, and bring them to closure.
- Lead in delivering an annual schedule for various audit programmes, including environmental/clinical practice audits.
- Input data from completed audits and prepare accurate draft reports for relevant Divisional Leads.
Essential criteria
- Good general education; Literate GCSE English, Numerate GCSE maths.
- Registered General Nurse or Registered Allied Health Care Professional
- Part way through or completed IPC qualification at minimum undergraduate level modules in infection control, or can demonstrate they possess this
- Relevant Qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience of using computer packages for word processing, databases, presentations, diary and self-organisation
- Qualification in teaching, ENB 998 or equivalent, Student nurse mentorship qualification
- Course completion in Facilitation skills, and presentation skills.
- Excellent IT skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Able to deal with patients and service users sensitively.
- Presenting at meetings, education forums, delivering training to wide audience
- Able to work as part of a small team.
- Able to work to deadlines.
- Able to take meeting notes and actions at draft level.
- Accurate typing and data entry.
- Ability to organize own time and prioritise work whilst also meeting service priorities.
- Skilled in using word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, MS Teams, Datix to undertake work.
- Good Interpersonal skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, particularly negotiation and persuasion skills to overcome significant barriers and opposing agendas to deliver improvements
- Knowledge and experience in the application of audit
- Experience of working in an acute NHS organisation recently
- Experience of infection control roles in health/social care setting.
- Experience of working in clinical health setting caring for patients.
- Experience in managing staff, resources
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Understanding of current healthcare issues i.e. clinical governance, risk management and quality controls assurance
- Ability to travel to Trust sites, work in different locations, bases.
- Understanding of confidentiality
- Willingness to undergo further training / development.
- Professional appearance and manner, able to wear uniform.
