Role summary

This permanent role is for an experienced Painter & Decorator within the Estates & Facilities Directorate at Barts Health NHS Trust, primarily based at Whipps Cross Hospital. The successful candidate will undertake a range of painting, decorating, and general building maintenance duties, including planned and breakdown work. The position requires flexibility for overtime and call-outs, offering 37.5 hours per week, NHS pension, and generous annual leave.

Key responsibilities

  • Undertake a range of painting & decorating maintenance work, including planned and breakdown maintenance, servicing, and repair of buildings and fixtures.
  • Perform core building maintenance duties and associated works for the Trust.
  • Maintain building services and equipment at the hospital.
  • Observe all relevant Health and Safety guidelines and Regulations.

Essential criteria

  • To have served a recognised building/decorator apprenticeship or training to a C&G Level 2/ 3 qualification in Painting and Decorating (6707) or equivalent
  • A good understanding of COSHH regulations
  • Knowledge of different building/decoration materials and methods
  • Painting & Decorating techniques
  • 3 years' decorating experience of hospitals or similar
  • Good manual dexterity and hand/eye co-ordination
  • Good knowledge of H&S Legislation and some knowledge of COSHH Basic computer skills
  • Ability to prioritise own work.
  • Desire and ability to work as part of a small team.
  • Good Numeracy and literacy skills
  • To be versatile in their approach to maintenance services and will have the ability to work on their own initiative as well as an integral part of a team.
  • Flexible to multi-skilling and can be responsive to changes in technology.
  • Good inter-personal skills
  • Committed to undertake the personal and development plan as identified or as agreed in the individual appraisal process.
  • Ability to deal with all levels of people in and around the trust.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull weighs in accordance with the Trust Manual Handling policy

  • A good understanding of Health and Safety Legislation
  • Full Clean Driving License
