Role summary
As a Band 7 Nutrition Nurse, you will work with the dietetic department to enhance patient nutrition across the trust. This involves educating teams, overseeing complex nutritional assessments, and ensuring high standards of care. The role focuses on surgical head and neck patients, leading protected mealtimes, and implementing NHS initiatives. You will also assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients requiring enteral nutrition.
Essential criteria
- NMC registered
- At least 6 months experience as a Band 6 senior staff nurse
Desirable criteria
- Nutrition nurse experience/ link nurse role
- Teaching / mentorship qualification
- Evidence of specialist studies related to nutrition and hydration
- Experience with patients undergoing PEG/ RIG/ JEJ feeding
- Experience of working with Multi disciplinary teams
- Experience with plastic, burns and head and neck patients
- Evidence of using a CI approach to improve patients pathways
- Ability to lead research/ undertake audit and change practice as required

Job summary
As the band 7 Nutrition Nurse for the trust you will work closely in conjunction with the dietetic department to improve patient nutrition throughout the trust. Providing the education required for the teams in the trust. You will oversee the assessment and management of patients with complex nutritional requirements. Assisting with the staff in delivering high standards of nutrition care for our patients.
Having good communication with both internal and external stakeholders is a must. As a tertiary centre you will need to discuss directly with colleagues from other trusts.
Main duties of the job
This role will encompass both the surgical head and neck complex patients, all patients with nutritional needs, leading on protected mealtimes and any further NHS initiatives.
Education and learning for all nursing staff within the trust. To ensure that all members of staff remain competent with mealtime food distribution, and the more complex side of caring for head and neck patients and their nutritional requirements.
Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care jointly with the dietetic team for patients requiring enteral nutrition. Ensuring that the care delivered is evidence based.
