Role summary
This is a fixed-term, full-time vacancy for an Assistant Respiratory Physiologist to join a busy team. The role involves performing simple diagnostic tests, supporting clinics, and maintaining equipment and stock. The post holder will primarily be based at Cannock Chase Hospital, delivering respiratory diagnostic tests, with occasional cross-site working at New Cross Hospital. Training will be provided for those without prior experience in spirometry/basic lung function.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in all clinical aspects and the running of an efficient diagnostic outpatient facility.
- Undertake/perform Spirometry with interpretation and basic sleep diagnostic set up and downloading.
- Support Respiratory Physiologists with advanced procedures and provide accurate results for interpretation by senior colleagues.
- Assist in the purchase of consumables and equipment, monitoring stock levels, and ensuring data is collected accurately.
- Implement new policies, procedures, and SOPs, and undertake mandatory and additional training.
Essential criteria
- GCSE grade 4 or above (new GCSE grades) or C or above (old GCSE grades) in Maths/English and Science or equivalent.
- NVQ level III in Science/healthcare related subject or equivalent experience
- IT Skills - Microsoft Office particularly Access.
- Standard keyboard skills
- Good Customer care skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Deal with public in a professional manner
- To be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience working in healthcare setting
- Previous experience of Respiratory Physiology testing
- Experience of dealing with difficult situations
- Basic knowledge and understanding of the function of the lungs
- Covering sickness Absence
- Willing to pursue further educational and training qualifications (e.g. ARTP Spirometry exam)

The post holder will be primarily based at Cannock Chase Hospital, working in the delivery of Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) respiratory diagnostic tests. There will be a requirement for cross site working, occasionally working at New Cross Hospital.
