Role summary
This is a full-time Band 3 Senior Healthcare Assistant role at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust's Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) Centre. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, coordinating adult and paediatric clinics and rotating into the paediatric day unit. Duties include patient coordination, room preparation, stock checks, and supporting the paediatric nursing team. Previous clinical experience, phlebotomy skills, and ideally knowledge of patient observations and ECGs are required. The role offers excellent support and training.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with patient care under delegation, including recording interventions and ensuring respect for individual needs.
- Perform and record patients' vital signs, reporting results to the Registered Nurse, Radiographer or Clinical Support Team Leader.
- Provide a clinical phlebotomy service, perform venous cannulation, and carry out central venous catheter bloods and central line care.
- Perform electrocardiograms (ECG) and report to the Registered Nurse and/or medical staff.
- Prepare patients and the environment for effective movement and handling, assisting with mobility requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness in the work environment, prepare for clinical procedures, and contribute to stock management.
Essential criteria
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Vocational healthcare qualification at level 3 or equivalent experience
- Experience of working in an acute care environment, undertaking a range of clinical commitments
- Ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of people
- Able to work using own initiative, following instructions from a Registered Nurse
- Basic IT skills
- Phlebotomy skills
- Effective customer care skills
- In-depth understanding of the healthcare support worker role in an outpatient setting

Job summary
We are seeking to recruit a full time Band 3 Senior Healthcare Assistant (HCA) for the Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) Centre at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
The Senior HCA role will involve a varied range of daily duties, working as part of a multidisciplinary team, to facilitate the smooth and efficient running of adult and paediatric clinics in the PBT centre and rotating into the paediatric day unit. The successful candidate will have previous experience in a clinical role.
Permanent role- 37.5hours over 5 days
Main duties of the job
This role will involve working as part of our HCA and Clinical Support Worker team, working alongside a small team of Senior HCAs. The position will involve rotating into the clinic and paediatric day unit areas in the PBT Centre.
Whilst working in the clinic area, the successful candidate will be responsible for the co-ordination of adult and paediatric patient clinics, ensuring all patients are seen in a timely manner and by the relevant Health Care Professionals and Allied Healthcare Professionals. Room and equipment cleaning and preparation, stock checks and clerical clinic prep will form part of the daily routine.
The role will also involve a rotation into the PBT paediatric day unit, supporting our paediatric nursing team
