Role summary
This is a one-year seconded post for an enthusiastic and dynamic Band 6 Nutrition Nurse Specialist within the paediatric Gastroenterology team. The role involves providing care, guidance, support, and education to patients and families with complex nutritional needs, including those requiring [contact details removed]. The successful candidate will develop specialist skills through clinics, inpatient care, and supporting surgical procedures and infusions. They will also contribute to the feeding clinic as part of the MDT.
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
- Degree qualification, 120 credits at L6 or possess an equivalent knowledge to be assessed through evidence of relevant specialist training, experience or portfolio
- Significant post registration experience / qualification / training, including experience and knowledge within relevant speciality
- Completion of all Band 5 (preceptorship) competencies
- Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice or evidence assessed to be of equivalent experience, demonstrating support to a range of learners in practice. Provide evidence of both supporting a range of learners in practice and supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
- Extensive post registration experience within specialist area
- Knowledge of current issues within the acute health service.

Main duties of the job
The paediatric Gastroenterology team are excited to be recruiting an enthusiastic and dynamic Band 6 Nutrition Nurse Specialist. This will be a one-year seconded post full-time 37.5 hours a week.
As this is a dynamic role that requires specialist knowledge, you will be supported to do appropriate training for professional development. The role will include covering the maternity leave of the current Nutrition CNS in providing care, guidance, support and education to patients and families with a wide range of complex nutritional needs.
This would include day to day management of patients with intestinal failure requiring [contact details removed] (PN). The successful candidate will be expected to develop specialist skills to support families, both in the clinic setting, inpatient care and via telephone/email.
Some of this development will be in participating in joint consultant and nurse-led clinics, where they will learn how children and young people are assessed, diagnosed and treatment options discussed. They will be responsible for supporting children through surgical procedures and specialist infusions on our day ward.
