Role summary

This role involves delivering high-quality chemotherapy services as part of a multidisciplinary team. The technician will participate in providing a safe, efficient, and cost-effective Aseptic Preparation Service. Key responsibilities include training and revalidation of staff in aseptic practices and assisting managers with daily duties. The successful candidate will work with senior technicians and junior staff to develop skills and improve aseptic services.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in the provision of a high quality, patient focused, aseptic service, particularly regarding chemotherapy compounding.
  • Assist senior technicians in the day-to-day running of the pharmacy aseptic service.
  • Train technicians, apprentices, and assistants in the technical aspects of the aseptic service.
  • Help facilitate and support the efficient and cost-effective use of medicines within the aseptic unit.
  • Provide safe, timely, cost effective appropriate and high quality pharmaceutical services for patients and staff.

Essential criteria

  • Recognised pharmacy technician qualification
  • NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent
  • Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Accredited checking qualification and registration with Northwest framework (equiv to NVQ level 4)
  • Relevant experience in hospital Pharmacy or other Pharmacy setting
  • Experience in dispensing medications, drugs receipt, record keeping and cold chain maintenance
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy procedures, practices and legislation including Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
  • Good manual, accuracy and analytical dispensing skills
  • Working knowledge of training requirements for technical / support posts
  • Ability to motivate self and others and lead a team
  • Ability to talk to / communicate with patients, carers and healthcare professionals clearly
  • Good influencing and teaching skills
  • Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft word and skills for dispensing and record keeping
