Role summary
This role is for a Senior Clinical Technologist/Healthcare Scientist specializing in Nuclear Medicine at Singleton Hospital. The post holder will work within a highly skilled team, supporting the Nuclear Medicine Department which includes SPECT-CT systems, an on-site Radiopharmacy, and a new PET-CT centre. Key responsibilities involve delivering clinical non-imaging and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine services, managing radiopharmaceutical dispensing equipment, and performing radioactivity management and radiation equipment quality control. The role also includes mentoring junior staff and students.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver clinical non-imaging and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine services for patients.
- Manage specialist PET radiopharmaceutical dispensing equipment.
- Perform radioactivity management and radiation equipment quality control procedures.
- Mentor junior staff members and students in specialist areas.
- Order, draw-up, and administer radiopharmaceuticals.
Essential criteria
- B.Sc (Hons) in Nuclear Medicine / Radiography / Science
- B.Sc./Pg.Cert./Pg.Dip./M.Sc. in Nuclear Medicine
- Registered Clinical Technologist with RCT or Registered Healthcare Science Practitioner with AHCS or Registered Therapy Radiographer with HCPC
- Experience in phlebotomy and cannulation and intravenous administration of radiopharmaceuticals
- Aseptic dispensing and administration of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals
- Radioactive waste management
- Technical management
- Radiation safety
- Quality Control testing of radiation detection equipment
- Standard infection control process relating to intravenous administrations
- Staff training
- Ability and willingness to learn new techniques and to develop team capability in new techniques
- A good communicator and an ability to obtain co-operation of staff and patients
- Must have physical dexterity to draw up radiopharmaceuticals in a safe manner
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team of technical staff
- Initiative, self motivation and perseverance.
- Calm disposition and ability to deal with people
- Ability to work under pressure. Good health record and timekeeping

Job summary
We are looking to appoint a Senior Clinical Technologist / Healthcare Scientist (specialising in Nuclear Medicine Technology) to work within the Nuclear Medicine Department at Singleton Hospital in Swansea.
The Nuclear Medicine service at Singleton Hospital has two state-of-the art SPECT-CT systems, an on-site Radiopharmacy, bone densitometry, inpatient radionuclide therapy and gamma counting facilities. We are about to open a new PET-CT centre on site and this role will provide essential technical support for this new service. There are plans to develop the radionuclide therapy service on the site, with the creation of a new outpatient therapy suite.
The post holder will work within a highly skilled team in therapeutic and technical nuclear medicine. The post holder will support management of specialist PET radiopharmaceutical dispensing equipment and will provide clinical non-imaging and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine services for patients. The post holder will perform radioactivity management and radiation equipment quality control procedures and will mentor junior staff members and students in this specialist area.
For applicants with insufficient experience, we may consider offering employment under the provisions of Annex 21, for a training period of up to 3 years.
