Role summary
This role is for an Accredited Clinical Coder or an experienced Clinical Coder within an acute NHS hospital setting. The successful candidate will join the Clinical Coding team at Hinchingbrooke, responsible for translating clinical information into diagnostic and procedure codes from patient health records. The job requires excellent communication, analytical, and judgement skills, along with a strong knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy. Key responsibilities
- Translate clinical information into diagnostic and procedure codes from patient health records.
- Engage with clinicians and support staff to ensure coded data accurately reflects patient care.
- Conduct validation exercises with Consultants to ensure correct assignment of codes and identify documentation gaps.
- Manage own workload within deadlines for data submission.
Essential criteria
- IHRIM Accredited Clinical Coder
- Educated to A Level qualifications in sciences e.g. Biology or equivalent knowledge acquired through work based training
- Ability to code all specialties
- Communicate complex coding rules to clinical and non-clinical staff and external agencies
- Experience of working as a clinical coder in the NHS
- Use of hospital administrative and clinical systems
- Demonstrate an understanding of clinical coding and its uses
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomical and physiological terms
- Attendance at Clinical Coding refresher workshops
- Analytical & judgemental skills
- Ability to abstract relevant clinical information for coding
- Ability to communicate complex information to clinical and administrative staff
- Planning and organisational skills

Are you an IHRIM Accredited Clinical Coder or experienced Clinical Coder working within an acute NHS hospital setting?
The Clinical Coding team at our hospital site Hinchingbrooke are looking to recruit to our substantive team of multi skilled specialist Clinical Coders. The ideal candidate will be ACC qualified with experience in coding a broad range of clinical specialties.
Applicants must demonstrate excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with clinicians and all relevant support staff to ensure our coded data reflects accurately the care of our patients. Excellent analytical and judgement skills are essential in this role as is good working knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy across a range of clinical specialties. You will be responsible for managing your own workload each day within the usual deadlines for submission of data.
We would welcome applications from experienced clinical coders (Band 4) without the IHRIM qualification with the option to study towards the National Clinical Coding Qualification.
