Role summary
This role seeks an experienced and highly motivated clinical leader to manage the Endoscopy Unit at Mile End Hospital's Early Diagnosis Centre. The successful candidate will be an inspirational and compassionate individual, leading a supportive team and acting as a role model. They will ensure excellent patient care and safety, inspiring and motivating the nursing team in their clinical development. This position involves working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and taking initiative in providing high-quality nursing care.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the ward/department team, acting as a professional role model.
- Take continuing responsibility and accountability for the 24-hour management and organization of the ward/department.
- Provide specialist nursing advice Trust wide to support high quality, individualized care to patients.
- Ensure the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.
- Be flexible in approach to the clinical area and provide cover as specified.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse (RN) with NMC
- Specialist course (or experience) in Endoscopy.
- Preparation for Mentorship course or equivalent
- Bsc/ MSc or working towards and evidence of continuing education
- Post registration experience including recent experience within Endoscopy or related services.
- Therapeutic competence in Endoscopy procedures
- Able to relate to people of varied ethnic, social, cultural backgrounds.
- People Management/ Line management experience
- Knowledge of current and emerging NHS strategy, policy and Endoscopy JAG standards, Infectious diseases, Respiratory Nursing
- Expert knowledge of endoscopic procedures including OGD, Colonoscopy and bronchoscopy, EBUS, ERCP, Oesophageal/colonic dilatation/stenting.
- How to identify and reduce risks with regards to health and wellbeing
- Understanding of own Knowledge and Skills and ability to identify learning needs and interests of nursing team
- Ability to self-reflect, carry out tasks of own job and identify what s/he needs to learn to able to improve current job performance
- Ability to take an active role in agreed learning activities and keeps a record of them
- Ability to offer constructive suggestions for service improvement and or development
Desirable criteria
- Masters Degree
- Endoscopy module
- Teaching / Education qualification
- Designated User qualification (Decontamination)
- To have experience in writing clinical protocols.
- Experience of facilitating care between different care settings.
- Teaching / Education experience
- Knowledge of capsule endoscopy is desirable

You will be a motivated and inspirational, caring and compassionate individual to lead the enthusiastic supportive team on our 2 room Endoscopy Department, being a role model to our nursing team and work collaboratively with other members of the MDT.
This is an opportunity for someone who is passionate about patient care and safety and wants to work in a supportive environment with other passionate members of the multidisciplinary team, enjoys working under their own initiative, providing excellent nursing care and getting the basics right, inspiring your team and motivating them in the development of their clinical skills and knowledge.
