Role summary
Northampton General Hospital is seeking a General Portering Supervisor to oversee the daily operations and deployment of staff within the busy Portering department. This role involves managing work rotas, training, and providing leadership to a team of general porters. Key responsibilities
- Organise and run shifts to meet the trust's needs.
- Liaise with various trust staff and departments to provide flexible services.
- Set up daily logs for the next day's shift.
- Use the Portering system to record all general Portering jobs.
- Keep E-Rostering, Annual Leave, Sickness, and absence records up to date.
- Support staff in all mandatory and departmental training and record it.
Essential criteria
- GCSE Grade: A-C in Maths and English or equivalent
- Level 3 qualification (eg A levels or NVQ L3 or equivalent) or equivalent demonstrable experience, skills and knowledge
- Previous experience in a supervisory / management position
- Good written, reading and verbal skills
- Well developed physical skills, ability to use equipment, excellent It and keyboard skills
- Good organisational skills plus investigating problems and resolving such as staff shortages
- Ability to multitask, concentrate and deal with interruptions and emergencies
- Ability to cope with distressing incidents, terminally ill patients and staff issues. Occasionally highly unpleasant conditions.
- Computer literate with a good understanding of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and Outlook)
Desirable criteria
- Strong people management skills including general HR skills in recruitment, induction, training and managing employee performance including disciplinary and grievance procedures
- Delivered a service in a similar role

Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust is looking to recruit a General Portering Supervisor to work in our busy Portering department.
Responsible for day to day operational supervision and deployment of staff to ensure all operational areas receive their allocated portering services.
