Role summary
This role is for a motivated and compassionate Pharmacy Technician to join the Medicines Management team at King's College Hospital. You will deliver a safe, high-quality, and patient-focused ward-based pharmaceutical service, ensuring patients receive safe and timely medicines support. Responsibilities include medicines reconciliation, patient counselling, coordinating discharge medicines, and supporting the induction and training of pharmacy staff. The role involves rotations across various clinical specialties and requires an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification or working towards it.
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3 plus accredited underpinning knowledge [BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent] or equivalent.
- Registered as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification or working towards
- Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
Desirable criteria
- HEE Medicines Optimisation course or equivalent
- Successfully completion of development courses relevant to practice
- Knowledge and Experience
- Knowledge of all regulations and legislation relevant to pharmacy, dispensary and clinical services
- Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems
- Substantial post registration experience in hospital setting
- Experience of training and supervision of pharmacy staff
- Experience of delivery service to patients or the public.
- Significant experience post registration relevant to hospital pharmacy practice with assessed competencies
- Experience of research and audit work
- Skills and Competencies
- Be able to provide and receive complex information on medicines use, ward and dispensary services
- Be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats with staff and patients
- Track record of successfully working within teams
- Be able to provide and receive complex information on medicines use, ward and dispensary services
- Able to motivate self and use initiative
- Be able to analyse and interpret information relating to medicines and their uses
- Be able to make sound judgments in relation to service provided or patient-specific issues
- Be able to recognise own limitation
- Be able to plan own activities on a day to day and ongoing basis
- Problem solving skills
- Be able to meet deadlines
- Ability to work well under pressure by prioritising and managing time effectively
- Be able to work in a busy demand-led service with occasional exposure to verbal aggression from patients
- Be able to organise the supervision of trainees
- To possess highly developed physical skills in relation to accuracy
- Able to participate in pharmacy 7-day service including the Late Duty, Weekend and Bank Holiday Service.
