Role summary

This role is for an experienced and compassionate Stroke Specialist Nurse to provide high-standard, holistic, patient-centred care for stroke patients in the ED and on the stroke unit. You will be responsible for initial assessment, initiation of thrombolysis/thrombectomy pathways, and facilitating patient flow. The role involves working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with opportunities for extensive training in stroke symptoms and neurological conditions.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide a high standard of holistic patient centred care for stroke patients.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Take charge of the unit clinically in the absence of senior nursing staff and support junior staff.
  • Manage patient flow within the department, ensuring stroke patients reach the stroke unit within allocated time.
  • Conduct initial assessment of acute stroke patients in ED and initiate thrombolysis/thrombectomy pathways.
  • Facilitate patient flow within stroke, progression of admission, and transfer of care into the community.

Essential criteria

  • NMC registration
  • Holds, or working towards, a degree
  • Completion or commitment to undertake relevant extended role scope competencies.
  • Relevant nursing experience within specialty
  • Audit or research experience
  • Teaching and education experience.

Desirable criteria

  • University qualification in specialty.
  • Teaching/assessment/ mentoring qualification.

Job summary

Are you an experienced and compassionate healthcare professional with a passion for stroke care? To work as a senior skilled member of the nursing team, to provide a high standard of holistic patient centred care for stroke patients. Ability to promote patient centred care and establish good relationships with patients and families/carers. To work in ED and on the stroke unit.

The successful candidate should have a passion for looking after stroke patients, in ED and on the stroke unit. Having no or little stroke experience should never stop anybody wanting to apply. We are a motivated and enthusiastic team and welcome new colleagues to join us. To succeed in this role you will demonstrate the ability to work alone as well as part of a team and possess sound clinical assessment and communication skills.

Main duties of the job
