Role summary
This role is for a highly motivated and enthusiastic podiatrist to join a multidisciplinary diabetic foot team at Norfolk & Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust. The team is one of the largest in the East of England, seeing over 700 new patients and 6500 follow-ups annually, all with complex foot disease. The successful applicant will participate in ongoing research and contribute to the department's research strategy. This position offers variety, working alongside consultants in various specialties in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Key responsibilities
- Support the Principal Podiatrist in the daily operational and financial management of the team.
- Provide clinical leadership within the specialty, including educational, professional and managerial guidance.
- Be responsible for the daily clinical supervision of junior team members, podiatrists on rotation, students, and support staff.
- Manage the day-to-day running of the diabetic foot service, providing specialist outpatient and inpatient podiatry services.
- Order, interpret, and advise on microbiology, radiology, and laboratory investigations, utilising PGDs to supply antibiotics.
- Help lead clinical research and audit, and be actively involved in the development and delivery of education material.
Essential criteria
- Professional qualifications (Diabetes related further study at MSc level or equivalent experience)
- Significant postgraduate experience as a community podiatrist. Candidates offering less experience but meeting all other criteria will be considered on their merit
- Contributing to clinical education/development of less experienced staff, students and/or assistants
- Ability to undertake comprehensive specialist assessment of patients using investigative and analytical skills and to make a clinical diagnosis based on presenting signs and symptoms
- Understanding of clinical governance and implications for services including experience of quality issues and audit. Including NICE guidance
- Ability to deal with challenging behaviour

This is a really exciting opportunity to join a well-established multidisciplinary diabetic foot team which is one of the largest in the East of England and we see over 700 new patients and 6500 follow-ups per year, all of whom have complex foot disease.
What we can offer
You will join a team of seven podiatrists. We can offer real variety in different sub-specialty working alongside consultants' colleagues in diabetes, microbiology, vascular, and orthopaedic surgery in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
However, being based in one of the UK's leading research hospital the role of a podiatrist can become so much more. We are actively involved in several large multicenter research projects and publish widely on many aspects of diabetic foot disease. This would give the successful applicant the opportunity to participate in the ongoing research and contribute to the department's ongoing research strategy.
