Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced peri-operative practitioner to lead a dedicated theatre team at Wharfedale Hospital. The role involves maintaining clinical practice, line managing multidisciplinary staff, and ensuring high-quality patient care across various surgical specialities. The Team Leader will manage capacity and staffing resources, with a split of 70% non-clinical and 30% clinical management responsibilities. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills to drive service improvement and staff development.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain clinical practice and potentially undertake weekend or night duties.
- Provide line managerial responsibilities for multidisciplinary staff within the Perioperative team.
- Lead and contribute to quality, performance, governance, and financial aspects of the role.
- Manage staffing, capacity, and resources to ensure safe and efficient department running.
- Support staff development, drive service improvement, and contribute to outstanding patient outcomes.
- Carry 24-hour continuing responsibility for effective management of the theatres and provide professional leadership.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse (Level 1) or Registered Operating Department Practitioner.
- Recognised teaching/assessing qualification.
- Evidence of continued professional development Willing to undergo training as necessary
- Post registration experience at Band 6 or equivalent
- Experience of managing and leading a team
- Budget management Audit & Standard setting
- Understanding of the local and national NHS agenda.
- Understanding of relevant National Service Frameworks.
- Awareness of Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust guidelines and policies.
- Understanding of organisational structures.
- At least 18 months at Band 6 or equivalent.
- Evidence of managerial development.
- Evidence of Clinical audit and standard setting.
- Service development and or change management (essential).
- Budgetary management experience.
- Current issues in healthcare.
- Standards of professional practice.
- Theatre specific practice and governance.
- Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for post

Job summary

Main duties of the job
Wharfedale Theatres provide day surgery to a wide variety of specialities within 4 theatres which include ophthalmics, colorectal, urology, plastics/maxillofacial, gynaecology, breast and ENT.
As a team leader you will continue to maintain clinical practice and there may be a requirement for weekend working and night duty if needed. The successful applicant will have line managerial responsibilities for the multidisciplinary staff within the Perioperative team. We require a dynamic and motivated Senior Practitioner with outstanding knowledge, skills and experience in the relevant Surgical Specialties to provide excellent patient care.
