Role summary
This role is for a Perinatal Nursery Nurse to join an expanding community team within the Perinatal Mental Health Service. The successful candidate will support women/birthing people, their infants, and families during the perinatal period. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, delivering tailored interventions, and working independently in various community settings like homes and children's centres. The role also involves supporting transitions from acute mental health care and promoting holistic family wellbeing.
Key responsibilities
- Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, and deliver high-quality care within the perinatal mental health setting.
- Maintain accurate, timely healthcare records in accordance with professional standards and service protocols.
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based interventions tailored to the unique needs of women/birthing people, their infants, and wider families.
- Support recovery and wellbeing across diverse community environments, including home visits, children's centres, and local hubs.
- Collaborate closely with professionals across Early Attachment services, IAPT, maternity services, health visiting, and children's services to ensure integrated, holistic care.
Essential criteria
- oEvidence of a recognised Childcare qualification e.g. Diploma in Childcare & Education (NNEB) or Diploma in Childcare Studies (BTEC) or NVQ Level 3 in Childcare & Education or NVQ Level 3 in Early Years Care & Education
- oEvidence of relevant continuing professional development
- oExperience of working with women/ birthing people in the antenatal and postnatal periods, including babies ages 0-24 months
- oExperience working with partners and carers
- oEvidence of working in a multi-agency or multi-disciplinary setting
- oExperience of observing and assessing the monther/parent-infant relationship
- oExperience of facilitating parent and infant interventions
- oExperience of supporting women/birthing people with mental health difficulties in the perinatal period
- oExperience of working in a multi-racial/cultural community and of working with interpreters
- Robost knowledge of childcare and child development, specifically ages 0-24 months
- Up to date knowledge and awareness of recent research and current best practice in child care
- Knowledge of legislation and national directives/policies relating to young children
- A good working knowledge of attachment theory and parent/infant bonding
- Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures including an understanding of issues around information-sharing in relation to Child Protection and Children in Need
- Knowledge & understanding of contributions of other disciplines and professionals to a multi-agency service
- Ability to demonstrate empathy towards individuals with a mental health problem as well as show a positive attitude towards mental health care
- Able to work well with other professional groups
- Ability to deal with stress appropriately and work under pressure
- Good attendance record
- Commitment to life-long learning
Desirable criteria
- oDegree level qualification in childcare
- oSpecialist training in infant mental health e.g. Solihull Approach
- oQualification in Paediatric Basic Life Support
- oTraining in Video Interactive Guidance and Circle of Security
- oQualification / training in additional specialist skills e.g. baby massage, weaning, breastfeeding support, PIIOS, NBO
- oExperience of working with vulnerable and hard to reach families
- oExperience of working within a community setting
- oExperience of facilitating groups
- Be able to demonstrate a clear knowledge and understanding of perinatal mental illness and its implications for babies and children
- Full UK driving licence
