Role summary

This role is for an enthusiastic Band 7 Speech & Language Therapist at Mildmay Mission Hospital, specializing in complex HIV related conditions and neuro-cognitive impairment. The post involves providing highly specialist assessment, advice, and treatment for communication and swallowing disorders within a multidisciplinary rehabilitation setting. The successful candidate will also offer clinical leadership to junior staff and students, contributing to the highest standards of patient-focused care.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide highly specialist comprehensive assessment, advice, and treatment for clients with communication and/or swallowing disorders.
  • Use specialist knowledge to inform sound clinical judgments for case management and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Demonstrate clinical effectiveness through evidence-based practice and outcome measures, ensuring continuous practice updates.
  • Adapt practice to meet individual patient circumstances, considering cultural and linguistic differences.
  • Be a core member of the MDT, attending weekly meetings and contributing to goal setting and planning for a delegated caseload.
  • Undertake key worker duties and collect accurate statistical information using the iCARE system and UK-ROC database.

Essential criteria

  • Experience of applying and interpreting standardised assessment to patient group
  • Experience of undertaking risk assessment and risk management
  • Highly specialist professional/ clinical knowledge acquired through training and practical experience
  • Ability to meet the demands of a client group with highly complex needs which requires a high level of concentration and an ability to adapt quickly to a variety of emergency situations
  • Able to respond to unpredictable work patterns
  • Well-developed concentration and observation skills
  • Experience of developing and delivering training Packages
  • Experience of working in an integrated health and social care team
  • Recognised Speech Therapy Degree
  • Qualification or equivalent
  • UK Health & Care Professions Council
  • (HCPC) Registration
  • MSc qualification or working towards one
  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Minimum of 6 years post registration experience which demonstrates the competencies to meet the role
  • requirements outlined in the JD
  • Evidence of management of highly complex
  • cases including complex manual handling issues
  • Evidence of recent Continuing
  • Professional and Personal Development
  • including specialist short courses
  • Demonstrates excellent analytical and reflection skills, clinical reasoning, risk assessment and management skills
  • Experience of developing and using relevant outcome measures
  • Ability to provide clinical leadership to the team relating to their field of expertise
  • Able to manage others through change
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with people from a wide variety of backgrounds/ cultures

  • Member of relevant Clinical Interest Group (HIV or neuro-rehab)

excellent patient focused care in a specialist Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation

setting.

Main duties of the job

The Speech & Language Therapist will work as a

part of a multi-disciplinary team, to meet the needs of patients referred to

Mildmay Hospital, ensuring the highest possible standards of practice.

To provide a highly specialist Speech &

Language Therapist input (assessment, advice and treatment) to clients referred

to the team.

To provide clinical leadership to SLT students, and

any junior/senior SLT posts.
