Role summary

This is an exciting Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse opportunity on Ward 1 at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. The ward provides care for patients undergoing elective and emergency spinal treatment. You will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality, holistic care to diverse patients with complex musculoskeletal, spinal, and oncology needs. The role involves working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient experience and ensure safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care. Opportunities to work across other specialist areas are also available.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead in delivering high-quality, holistic care to a diverse patient population.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient experience.
  • Drive continuous improvement and ensure the delivery of safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care.
  • Be responsible for the daily smooth running of the ward from admission to discharge.
  • Ensure safe care staffing standards are adhered to, addressing safety, infection control, governance, audits, staff support, and development daily.
  • Coordinate patient care, attend ward rounds, liaise with support teams and therapists, and communicate effectively with all members of the ward team.

Essential criteria

  • Registered nurse with current NMC registration
  • Diploma /degree level nursing qualification. Willingness to complete post graduate orthopaedic nursing course
  • Substantial/Significant experience required as a Band 5 staff nurse
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of duties required for the post

  • Evidence of post graduate professional development
  • Experience at senior staff nurse level

We are delighted to offer an exciting Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse opportunity within The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.

Ward 1 is a 24-bedded inpatient ward providing care for patients undergoing both elective and emergency spinal treatment, including spinal surgery, management of post-operative wound infections, spinal cord injury patients.

As a Sister/Charge Nurse , you will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality, holistic care to a diverse patient population with complex musculoskeletal, spinal, and oncology needs. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to enhance the patient experience, drive continuous improvement, and ensure the delivery of safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care.

This role also provides opportunities to work across other specialist areas within the Trust, supporting patient care while broadening your clinical knowledge, leadership skills, and experience in a range of orthopaedic services.
