Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Assistant Psychologist to join the Early Intervention in Psychosis Service (EIP) in South Staffordshire. Key responsibilities
- Support and enhance professional psychological care by assisting qualified practitioners in service delivery and evaluation.
- Provide psychological assessment and interventions, including group work, under close supervision of a Practitioner Psychologist.
- Work with inpatients, outpatients, and staff within South Staffordshire Mental Health Services.
- Assist with clinically related administration, audits, statistics collection, and development of research projects.
Essential criteria
- A First or Upper Second honours degree in psychology OR a lower class with a post-graduate qualification e.g.: Masters degree.
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
- Experience of working in an inpatient or outpatient or community setting
- Significant experience of face-to-face work with psychology and mental health clients
- Has experience of working alongside other staff.
- High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems or other disabilities.
- An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to an acute or community mental health context.
- An understanding of psychology applied to health care
Desirable criteria
- Further training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice, and/or research design and analysis.
- Experience of working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems
- Experience of assisting in delivery of group-based treatment
- Has worked with clinical psychologists and has an awareness of professional standards/issues.
- Experience of working within multi-disciplinary settings and multi-agency settings.
- Experience of working with young adults or those experiencing psychosis
- Knowledge and skills specifically relevant to Early Intervention in Psychosis

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Assistant Psychologist to join our Early Intervention in Psychosis Service (EIP) in the South Staffordshire locality.
The Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) service provides assessment, formulation, and treatment to individuals between the ages of 14-65 experiencing a first episode psychosis (FEP) or an at risk mental state (ARMS). Within EIP we take a team around the client approach, working collectively to provide a tailored multidisciplinary package of support that champions the role of psychosocial interventions to reduce distress and promote social/occupational functioning and wellbeing. As such, the successful candidate will demonstrate the principles of recovery in practice, ensuring the care we deliver is respectful and meaningful to each client and reflects the individual experience. Alongside specific supervised low intensity psychological interventions with individuals and groups, the role also entails supporting the work of the team as a whole and a degree of flexibility and initiative is expected.
