Role summary
As a Nursery Nurse in Children's Services, you will join a diverse and stimulating ward area, working alongside Play Specialists and other Nursery Nurses. You will be part of a proactive Play Team, providing quality intervention supporting patients, families, and colleagues. The role involves maintaining a safe, child-focused environment where play occurs naturally, and providing play for normalisation for children attending hospital as inpatients or outpatients. You will also document play interventions and use knowledge of child development when selecting activities.
Essential criteria
- Level 3 Childcare or nationally recognised equivalent (See link) Early years qualifications list: UK only - GOV.UK
Desirable criteria
- Significant years post qualification experience
- Experience of working with children/young people
- Experience of working with children and young people in age group of 8 - 16 years
- Experience of working as a team member.
- Knowledge of best practice.
- Knowledge and understanding of child development.
- Basic knowledge of the principles of clinical governance.
- An awareness of health and safety and risk management.
- Documented evidence of continuing Professional Development.
- Ability to work with individuals and groups of children/young people
- Play skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective organisation skills
- Word processing, multimedia and internet skills
- Additional Requirements
- The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of Safe, Kind, Excellent.
- Commitment to patient/family-centred, non-discriminatory practice.
- Be able to sensitively deal with the frequent challenges associated with social differences, parental and family anxiety and cultural diversity.

As a Nursery Nurse in Children's Services, you will be joining a diverse and stimulating ward area. You will work alongside Play Specialists and other Nursery Nurses to be part of a proactive Play Team, determined to provide quality intervention supporting patients, families and those we work alongside.
