Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and highly motivated Assistant Psychologist to join a multi-disciplinary team at Millenium Lodge, a Secure Children's Home. The role involves supporting children and young people who have experienced significant adversity, including trauma and mental health challenges. You will carry out assessments, contribute to care plans, deliver interventions, and engage in research and data collection, all under the supervision of a registered practitioner psychologist.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out various assessments and behavioural observations.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary discussions about a young person's diagnosis, intervention, risk assessment and care plan.
- Carry out interventions directly with young people.
- Engage with regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines.
- Assist in the collation and provision of data needed for performance reports, audits etc.
- Undertake research and development activities, including literature searches, data collection, and statistical analysis.
Essential criteria
- A good Honours Degree (minimum 2:1) in Psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society as conferring Graduate Basis for Registration
- Application of knowledge acquired through Psychology Degree on psychological theory to therapy. Including good knowledge of: oPsychological theories relevant to trauma informed care. oPsychometric statistics and theory
- Knowledge of principles of proficiency in administration of: oPsychometric assessments. oBehavioural assessment (e.g., Functional Analysis). oAssessment by observation. oAssessment by interviewing. oAssessment by analysis of archive material
- Knowledge of research methodology, proficiency in research including: oSampling oQualitative data collection and analysis oQuantitative data collection and statistical analyses
- Skilled in communicating under difficult circumstances: oAble to overcome major barriers to communication with clients who have limitations in comprehension and expression
- High level of computer literacy, Power Point, Excel, SPSS etc
- Good written and communication skills
- Ability to work with clients on a one-to-one basis or group setting
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to develop good working relationships with clients and colleagues
- Ability to communicate highly sensitive information to clients, carers and colleagues in a constructive and understandable way
- Ability to adapt communication style if barriers to understanding and/or expression are present
- Ability to be empathic and offer reassurance
- Ability to deal sensitively with highly emotive/hostile situations
- Excellent organisational skills
- Ability to use own initiative and discretion in planning, prioritising and managing own caseload under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist
- Ability to adapt to unpredictability of workload and prioritise flexibly
- Ability to engage in intense concentration for extended periods of time during assessments and therapeutic sessions and to cope with unexpected interruptions or unpredicted behaviour by clients

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive, creative and highly motivated Assistant Psychologist who is passionate about supporting children and young people in a secure setting.
As an aspiring psychologist you will join our fantastic multi-disciplinary team at Millenium Lodge, Secure Children's Home, which will be the new site in 2027, for Lincolnshire Secure Children's Home currently rated Outstanding by both CQC and Ofsted. The service sits within our Children's and Young Person's Complex Care Service Line, alongside the Harmful Behaviour Service and Complex Needs Service. Our New Secure Children's Home will provide care for up to 28 young people aged 10-18.
Many of the young people we support have experienced significant adversity, including trauma, mental health challenges, neurodevelopmental difficulties and risk of harm to themselves or others. You'll be part of a team that includes forensic and clinical psychologists, psychiatry, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, mental health and physical health nurses, resettlement practitioners.
