Role summary
Join the Children's Community Nursing team to deliver quality nursing care for children in Preston, Chorley, and South Ribble. This role involves providing specialised, skilled nursing care to children and young people with acute, long-term, complex, and palliative needs in various community settings. You will develop and evaluate care programmes, teach families, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate early discharge and prevent hospital readmissions. The position is for 12 months and requires an enthusiastic, dynamic, and motivated Children's Nurse.
Key responsibilities
- Provide specialised, skilled nursing care to children and young people with a variety of nursing needs, including acute, long-term, complex, and palliative care.
- Facilitate early discharge and prevent avoidable readmission to hospital through specialist support and clinical skills.
- Act as a resource of paediatric expertise, providing specialist advice to other professionals and promoting evidence-based practice.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individual programmes of specialist nursing care.
- Teach families/carers to carry out specific complex nursing care and procedures, enabling them to feel confident in caring for their child.
- Administer medications including intravenous therapy and cytotoxic drugs, in partnership with pharmacy colleagues.
Essential criteria
- Appropriate NMC Registration Children's trained
- Evidence of clinical competence in area of Children's Community nursing e.g. preparing and administering IV medications, gastrostomy and tracheostomy care, wound care and respiratory managerment
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Safeguarding and the relevance of these to practice
- Experience of looking after children with Complex health care needs
- 2 years post registration experience

- Specialist Practitioner Degree in Children's Nursing

This is an excellent and exciting opportunity for Children's Nurses whom are looking to further develop their current knowledge and nursing skills, which can be transferred within the community setting as an autonomous practitioner.
You will have the opportunity to be involved in exciting service transformation plans around further enhancing the current community nursing provision. You will also be involved in collaborative working with children and their families with acute and long term health conditions, whilst working alongside your MDT colleagues.
Your friendly, reliable and adaptable personal skill sets are essential to this role as we have the privilege to provide acute nursing care in not only our community settings, but within the children's own homes.
