Role summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join the Older People's Psychological Services team in Mid Essex. The role involves providing psychological assessments and interventions for older people with complex mental health difficulties and adults with neurodegenerative dementia. You will work across community and inpatient settings, provide group interventions, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams. The post also includes supervising assistant and trainee psychologists, with opportunities for clinical research, teaching, and leadership development.

Essential criteria

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical/Counselling Psychology
  • HCPC Registration

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of regular continuing professional development through further professional training and experience as required by the HCPC
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies/psychosocial interventions for older adults/people with dementia
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists/psychological therapists
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of neuropsychology in the context of dementia
  • Education / Qualifications

Newly qualified clinical/counselling psychologists or those who will be qualifying and achieving HCPC status soon are invited to apply; employment will be at band 7 initially with a with an appraisal linked developmental plan to enable progression to Band 8a once essential criteria have been met.

Main duties of the job

Older People's Specialist Mental Health Services in Mid Essex consist of locality based community mental health teams (including memory assessment and support services), urgent care home treatment teams and an inpatient ward. Each post will be based primarily in one community MDT or the inpatient war
